Wines With A View

For enjoying good wine you don't need just the right wine, but also the right environment to savour it. Therefore the Greek island of Santoriniisn't only a hot spot for honeymooners, but also for wine lovers! Not only is Santorini soil very fertile for wines due to its volcanic characteristics, but also it happens to offer breath-taking views over the Aegean Sea and the islands in front, which were formed by a massive volcanic eruption. Picturesque, don't you think?

If you're ever in Santorini, be sure to pay a visit to (at least) these two vineries: Santo Wines and Boutari Winery. The wines have definitely their own specific flavour that you can't find elsewhere!

Santorini - Greece

About a half an hour before arriving, we started to see the cliffs of Santorini rising from the water. The closer we got, the more people squeezed on to the deck for their first pictures of it. I have to admit, the view was really spectacular: a massive caltera rising from the sea and small white villages built amphitheatrically around its edges. This was the first observation, the second was the massive cruisers lined up along its coast. Judging by the sea traffic, we were not going to be alone on this volcanic paradise.

As soon as the boat sailed away from the Athens harbour, it was time for aperitif! As a Frenchman, I had squeezed a bottle of Pastis 51 into my luggage back home- for a special occasions such as this ;). We didn't expect the boat ride to pass by so quickly as it did, and we really had all the ingredients needed for a good time: the gorgeous sea, a little breeze cooling us down, the simple excitement to be there, the drinks and most of all the good friends!

Athens has many ancient historic monuments

Aphrodite- the goddess of love, Apollo- the god of music, Dionysus- the god of wine, Hermes- the god of travel, Poseidon- the god of sea or perhaps Zeus- the king of all gods, who wouldn’t have read stories of these ancient Greek mythological figures? Yes, it was time to pack our bags and head to Greece, a home to all these and to many more! The next couple of days we would be soaking up as much Greek history as possible in one of the oldest and most historic cities in the world: Athens.
