Tokyo Bay: Odaiba お台場

10/15/2014

Tokyo's nightly skyline
Seeing a city from different angles is one of those things that cultivates one's perspective of the city in question. The same goes for Tokyo. I wrote earlier that you haven't really seen or understood the size of Tokyo until you've seen it from above, and while I stand behind this statement, I'd like to address another memorable viewing point that delivers what is often considered the most beautiful nightly skyline of this city- The district of Odaiba

In a nutshell, it's an artificial island that back in the day was created for the defence purposes whereas today it mainly serves as a district for diverse entertainment. A man-made beach, a waterfront promenade, shopping malls, hotels, restaurants, ferris wheel and countless other amusement options are among the things that can be found here. Moreover, the sunset watch attracts lots of visitors as the Odaiba Marine Park is an ideal spot from where both the Rainbow Bridge and the city skyline can be seen. I, for one, thought it was a lovely way to spent the evening with an additional bonus of riding the cool Yurikamome train across the Rainbow bridge in order to get there and back.

So without a further ado, here are a few pictures of the pretty sunset we got to admire over the Tokyo Bay.

TIPS & LINKS

How to get there and more about the district of Odaiba here.
- It's best to get there well before sundown to catch the best sunset views over Tokyo and the Rainbow Bridge.
- The best spot for the views is the Odaiba Marine Park.
- In the immediate vicinity of the Marine Park there here are many restaurants, shops etc.

Tip: If you don't mind staying a bit further from all the city action, you can find really good hotel deals in Odaiba...
